It’s Sunday again! (I totally missed last week, the whole family was sick, glad that’s over!)
Here is what I’ve been reading this week:
Parenting
Authoritarian parents whose child-rearing style can be summed up as “it’s my way or the highway” are more likely to raise disrespectful, delinquent children who do not see them as legitimate authority figures than authoritative parents who listen to their children and gain their respect and trust, according to new research from the University of New Hampshire. This is from the Science Daily article “Controlling Parents More Likely to Have Delinquent Children”
Despite a mountain of accumulated evidence showing the damage physical punishment can have on a child, spanking is still widely used by parents all over the world. This recent study in Canada is trying to bring more light onto the subject and to the medical professional to help eliminate the controversy “We’re really past the point of calling this a controversy. That’s a word that’s used and I don’t know why, because in the research there really is no controversy,”says Joan Durant, a professor at University of Manitoba and one of the authors of the study. Valentine’s Day:
We don’t get to hand out treats or cards at school but I still can’t help looking at some of these adorable valentine ideas. This butterfly pop from Skiptomylou is just adorable! And for the superhero lovers, these hero pops at Little Bit Funky are super fantastic!
VBAC
I wrote recently about my VBAC experience, I was really glad to come across this article advocating a stronger review of the necessity of repeat cesarians. “Today, only about 8 percent of women who had a prior C-section have a vaginal birth — though a majority of women in these cases are good candidates for VBAC.” I would love for the “once a c-section, always a c-section” be a thing of the past.
