It’s Sunday!
This week I’m sharing on Bilingualism, Circumcision and Acting Out.
This is a very powerful story here from a young man and not having been give the choice over his circumcision. Beyond the Bris: Me But Not My Son: A Young Jewish Man Breaks Rank on Circumcision “No matter what, I can’t cut my kids. I will never know the advantages of being intact—how much difference this really makes—but I do know skinning a baby’s penis is wrong. I will give my sons the choice I never had.”

I really enjoyed this article from the NYTimes Why Bilinguals Are Smarter : The key difference between bilinguals and monolinguals may be more basic: a heightened ability to monitor the environment. “Bilinguals have to switch languages quite often — you may talk to your father in one language and to your mother in another language,” says Albert Costa, a researcher at the University of Pompeu Fabra in Spain. “It requires keeping track of changes around you in the same way that we monitor our surroundings when driving.”

What Your Child Wishes You Knew When He Acts Out from Aha!Parenting: “So next time your child is acting out, remind yourself that you’re her emotion coach. She needs your help to feel and let go of all those tears and fears she’s been stuffing all day, all week, all year. Once you help her feel safe enough to let those feelings up and out, she’ll feel so much better. Which means she’ll act so much better. How? You have two choices. Play when you can, Cry when you have to.”
