Rockin’ and Rollin’ Paint – Part 1

We recently had another paint party outside on the lawn and it was great fun.  This time we decided to try painting with balls, ramps and boxes.

First we gathered some materials:

We used a few bouncy balls, one tennis ball, a glass paper weight (it was pretty cool how careful they were with this item and it gave us a chance to talk about how different balls had different weights) a textured jingle ball and two meditation balls.

We also gathered paint, plastic tubs for the paint, paper and some rags. (Next time I will have soap, sponge and bucket with fresh water near by)

Next we looked for items to use as ramps and settled on a piece from a desk (center) and two lids from storage containers. We leaned them up against the picnic table and placed some plastic under it to catch the paint splatter. While we were rolling I kept exchanging sheets of paper under each ramp.

Next we added paint into several plastic containers so we could dip the balls. The boys rolled the balls into the paint and also mixed them into the containers creating some pretty swirls in there also.  Alas it was time to roll the balls down the ramps, and then of course repeat, repeat and repeat once more!

We ended up with awesomepatterns and colors on the ramps, on the balls and on the paper.  Oh and on the grass too…Clean up time was a little time consuming but fun – we hosed down the balls and ramps, the boys were more than happy to help scrub everything and the boys headed to the tub right away.  Our lawn after two big storms only has the littlest hint of paint left…but it was worth it!!

Stay tuned for Rockin’and Rollin’ Paint – Part 2 coming on Thursday!
